درباره کتاب Mathematical Methods in Chemical Engineering
بخشی از پیشگفتار کتاب Mathematical Methods in Chemical Engineering نوشته Jenson و Jeffreys از انتشارات نوپردازان:
The first edition of this book was published in 1963 when both authors were lecturers in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University and the contents were directed to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered in the department. At that time, the courses presented in most university engineering departments were analytically based and only simple numerical methods for use with desk calculators were introduced. Powerful digital computers are now freely available which provide alternative methods for solving the more complicated problems, especially those in optimization studies. In addition S.I. units have been adopted almost universally and these developments have made a revision of the first edition desirable.
In this second edition, chapters 1 to 10 have been condensed slightly but the treatment of boundary layer theory has been introduced in Chapter 7. Chapter 11 has been completely rewritten with an emphasis on computer methods without restricting the presentation to a particular computer language. This has been achieved by the inclusion of logic flow diagrams wherever possible both here and in the subsequent chapters of the text. is hoped that this will encourage readers to write programs in whatever language they prefer. Chapter 12 has been modified to prepare the reader for some of the optimization techniques described in a completely revised Chapter 13, and finally additional problems for the reader to attempt are offered together with references to their solution.
Throughout the text we have tried to adhere to the S.I. system of units but on a number of occasions we have found the “second” inconvenient and have expressed time in minutes or hours. We are assured that this liberty is permissible.
